Comments: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SUBMIT THIS TO MR. DARRELL WALTRIP Mr. Waltrip, I want to thank you and Sterling Marlin for taking a stand in favor of the Fair Grounds and Race Track. It's a huge part of the history of Nashville and should NEVER be eliminated. I am 60 years old and my father used to take me to the races as a child, which I remember vividly. I remember the good times I spent with Daddy in those (at that time) rickety old stands and can see the smiles on his face and hear the laughter as we watched those old cars running around that old track. I had left and returned there the night of the fire and cried like a baby. I was so afraid there would be nothing left, it was almost like watching my own home being destroyed. I, like so many others, also remember sneaking in as a teenager because I didn't have the money to pay to get in and I wanted to save the precious little I had for the rides and the hot dogs and cotton candy. Those are memories that I know I am not the only one who has them. There are so few places that still exist where people my age remember the ultimate thrill of going to the TN State Fair Grounds and Race Track, these are in my heart and memory. It was just shown in the last few days how important that wonderful place is---housing all of those poor abused horses. There are so many vital things other than the typical fair and races that complex can be used for, which makes it an ultimately important area which deserves to live on in its glory. I am appalled that there has even been a thought of closing down this wonderful old place that has brought so many memories to so many. I also would be interested in knowing if this place would qualify as an Historical place, thereby stopping the destruction of what it has stood for for so many years. If it is listed as an Historical establishment, can that not block the demise of it?
PLEASE pass on my deepest appreciation for Sterling Marlin being there with you and the two of you standing your ground and stating the full importance of the history of such a grand old place.
